South American Mission Society
Formed in 1844 by a Christian British Naval captain who observed the indigenous people of South America marginalised by the Spanish-speaking authorities, and called for workers to take the gospel to them. South America has been called the neglected continent and it has always been a struggle to interest the British churches in this project, but after many years work, Dioceses have now been estabished in Argentina, Peru, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and Bolivia, which form a province of the Anglican Communion. SAMS also supports work in Brazil, Ecuador, Spain and Portugal. This Society was adopted by St. Andrew's when the Bazleys went to Chile in 1962.

Since then, Janet Brown (Mrs Millwood) Andrew Greenwood. (nephew of the Millingtons and the Crawshaws), Lois Millington, Pete and Lindy Valentine, and Amy Haigh have all served God in South America. Amy has just returned home from working in Antofagasta, a port in northern Chile. Gordon and Mary Crawshaw worked for many years at the HQ of this society but are now retired.
